LCD or Plasma for Gaming

Video games are quickly becoming one of the most popular pastimes around the world. As the latest gaming consoles and hottest video games hit the market, it’s important that your games look as good as they can. The most recent games offer the mind blowing graphics and 3D images but these amazing features can be refined further to experience the best performance if you have the right TV.

LCD vs Plasma for Gaming

Video games usually contain very quickly moving pictures, and unless you get the best picture quality and motion tracking, you never get the real gaming experience. A prime example is a racing game in which the TV set has to show moving images rapidly. In order to get the best performance during display of moving pictures, a Plasma TV is more suitable because it is more efficient in motion tracking. With LCD TVs, viewers can experience a moving object in the screen that leaves behind a trail – something that isn’t tolerable for most gamers. So, unless you are playing a strategy game, in which things don’t really run that quickly, you are recommended to buy a Plasma TV for gaming

On the other hand, gamers also have to contend with the problem of image burn-in as certain games often show similar images, if not the same picture, for long periods. Plasma TV has a drawback that it is susceptible to image burn-in which can cause little dark spots in the screen as individual pixels can burn out due to excessive display of the same image. On the point of image burn-in, an LCD TV is a better choice for you. Moreover, as opposed to Plasma TV, an LCD TV can be run for long periods without any fears of it heating up. If you are a fanatic gamer who plays video games for hours on end, this feature should suit you.

Finally, you have to consider the cost. LCD TVs usually cost more than Plasma TVs, but they give a longer display life. At the end of the day, both LCD and Plasma televisions have their distinct strengths. Before making a final decision, you should know exactly what type of gamer you are.

You say burn-in is a concern on plasmas, but you say elsewhere on this site that image burn-in is no longer an issue with today’s plasma tv’s, due to image shift and other anti-burn-in technologies.
    Which is it?

If you read closely, it should state that older plasma televisions have the problem. It really comes down to the actual television you’re talking about. What plasma TV are you considering?

For gaming refresh rate and response time is most important.

120 Hz LCDs are fast enough to compare to CRTs in terms of game input lag.

the ms response time of a LCD is not the same as refresh rate. They are both important. CRTs are still the best, more 120 hz LCDs need to come out. Sad that old technology like CRT still wins out when it comes to gaming performance.

120 HZ LCDs cost way too much because they add on 3d hardware like glasses. They companies don’t seem to realize what pro gamers do, that the refresh rate of 120hz (needed for 3d) has a side effect of making FPS games smoother and no image tearing. No need for Vsync to be turned on with 120hz.

    hello,

i’m going to buy a new tv, but i don’t know what i’m going to buy the plasma samsung ps-50c550
or any kind of other tv that is LCD and is between the 40 and 50 inch and does not cost more than 900$(for me 900 euro)
the samsung ps-50c550 is not a really expensive one and i game a lot and watch some blu-ray movies at the time.
so the only problem is that i want a good sharp tv that is big. the 50 inch what i saw was really good looking i think, but i don’t mind a smaller tv that has better quality.

please set a comment back to mine e-mail :dionvissermax@msn.com or just here if i get a e-mail that someone respond to this question.

    thank you
