Loaded with features, the Samsung PN50B860 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV is sure to catch most shoppers’ eyes. With a bargain price and the great Samsung customer service behind it, this is a product that a lot of customers would feel comfortable in buying. Unfortunately, the reality of a HDTV doesn’t always live up to its promise, and this product has an unfortunate flaw that could very well ruin its promise.

On paper, this TV stands out of a crowd – just look at some of the stats on the Samsung PN50B860:

While all of this is pretty impressive, the flaw still remains: a loud, hard to ignore buzzing sound that is noticeable even during regular volume usage. According to Samsung, the sound should disappear when standing 15 feet away and playing the TV at a normal volume. Unfortunately, the optimal viewing distance for a plasma of this size is between 6.25 and 12.5 feet. With the math not adding up, buying the Samsung PN50B860 HDTV goes from a sure thing to a tough call.
