Things to Look for in an LCD TV

If you’ve already made up your mind that you want an LCD television, there are still things you need to consider. We are going to take a quick look at some of the best things to look for in an LCD HDTV.

The first thing to consider is whether you want the newest LED backlit LCD technology for your TV. Basically, LED allows the newer LCD TVs to be created even small and thinner. In addition, they do address some problems in old LCD TVs like viewing angle and contrast.

120 or 240 Hz Processing?

In the past, 60 Hz refresh rate was the common standard on televisions. Simply put, the refresh rate of a television affects the “blur” or “motion” you will see during some types of video. The higher the refresh rate, the clearer the picture. Now, the thing to know is that 240HZ may not really be needed. Unless you look at a lot of test patterns, most people are NOT going to notice the difference between 120 and 240 Hz. This can save you a few bucks if you were thinking you HAD TO HAVE 240 Hz. For most people, the difference is not noticeable with most programming.

HDMI Inputs

Another thing you are going to want to consider is number of HDMI (and other) inputs on the television. If you have a lot of home theater equipment, a couple game consoles, and who knows what else, you want to make sure your LCD television has enough inputs to handle everything. This is something most people don’t think about until it’s too late. If you’re smart, however, you’re going to know how many you need when you start shopping.

Mount or TV Stand

You will want to check the fine print to see if any mounting hardware or a TV stand is included with the LCD HDTV. Most times, these items will NOT be included. This isn’t the case all the time, however. The thing is, you want to make sure you have everything you need to start enjoying your television when it arrives, so make sure you know whether or not you’re going to need mounting brackets or a TV stand for your new LCD HDTV. Also, make sure that if you do have a TV stand your new television is going to fit!

What to Look for in an LCD HDTV

There are other considerations you should think about when buying an LCD television. As long as you do your homework (reading LCD vs Plasma Blog counts), then you’re going to have a better idea of what television is going to be best for your home. If you know the things to look for in an LCD TV, you’re going to have a better experience overall.

If you have any tips on stuff to look for when buying an LCD TV, leave a comment below and let us know.

How to Choose between Plasma and LCD HDTV

If you have been wondering if you should spend your hard earned money on a plasma or LCD HDTV, you’re not alone. This is a question that faces many modern people. You would think that with so much information available thanks to the Internet it would be easy to find the information to make the best decision.

The problem is there is almost TOO MUCH INFORMATION available online. Especially when it comes to choosing between a LCD or plasma television. This can leave a person even more confused than when they started.

This is why we run this site – to rise above all the clutter surrounding the LCD vs Plasma debate. So, without any further waiting, here is a look at how you can best choose between LCD and Plasma.

Choosing Plasma or LCD – The Basics

Here are the basic things you should think about when choosing LCD or Plasma.

  • Contrast - Do you like to see dark darks? At the moment, plasma is going to give you deeper darks and richer colors. That said, new LED LCD technology is catching up.
  • Viewing Angle - Are a lot of people going to be viewing the television? If so, you want something with a good viewing angle – ie it looks good even if you’re looking at it from an angle. Currently, most plasma televisions win out with a better viewing angle.
  • Power Consumption – While the difference is negligible, if you’re worried about power consumption, you are going to want to go with an LCD HDTV. They typically draw a lot less power than plasma televisions of the same size. They also don’t heat up as much.
  • Size - LCD technology allows for a much smaller (and lighter) television. If you’re worried about space and want something super small, you’re going to want to go with LCD. Remember that LED LCD HDTVs are even smaller most of the time. That is, the picture size is large, but the overall size and weight of the television is less.

Choosing Plasma or LCD – Advanced

As you can see above, both LCD and plasma have good points. To really make sure you get the TV of your dreams, here’s an idea. This is going to take more time and effort, but if you really want to get a television you are going to be happy with, you need to see them in person. A trip to a local “box store” will let you see the televisions up close. Don’t worry – you can go back home and save money by purchasing online, but you are going to have a better idea of what you are going to get.

How do You Choose Between LCD and Plasma?

Here at LCD vs Plasma Blog, we really care about your opinion. Leave a comment below and let us know YOUR method for choosing between plasma and LCD televisions. We’d love to hear it!
